In the beginning God spoke into existence the heavens and the earth and created all living creatures. At the end of six days of work God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. On the seventh day God rested and blessed that day and sanctified it. (Genesis 1:1-31)
For the lack and want of other more refined, explicit words, the following words will have to suffice when relating to creation: awesome, amazing, perfect, and miracle. Seven letters make up each word—God’s perfect number.
Two other words having the same numerical perfection are newborn and parents, which express the creativity of God via humanity. God thought it good to bring forth perfection through the miracle of conception, using man and woman.
Amazing as it is, God chose imperfect people to bring excellence and purity into His perfectly formed world to replenish the earth with creatures of innocence made in God’s likeness.
To try and understand the depth of God’s love, who is the very essence of love, is like trying to understand creation, people, or calculus—and we know how difficult that is. Finding a needle in a haystack would be an easier task than trying to comprehend how much God really cares for mankind.
As an example, visualize the experience of watching the miracle of birth—a baby being born. Consider the awesomeness of the moment—the love experienced—the tenderness of touching new, soft skin—the sound of a first cry—the beauty of their little face, and magnificence of tiny fingers and toes. It is an incredible, indescribable wonder and marvel of God.
The depth of mankind’s commitment to parenthood can be measured by the joy that comes when two people have created a living being. We try to understand, as parents, the enormous responsibility, dedication, and commitment that we must provide for our child, which boggles the mind.
Reality at the moment of birth struggles to find lodging in awestruck minds, because emotions are soaring high; as high as eagles fly—it’s a new life; a gift from God; and you and your mate are responsible!
The degree of God’s commitment to humanity never wavers, nor does it falter. He is an ever giving Father. The depth of God’s love is immeasurable and limitless, and the breadth is inexhaustible and boundless. God wants us to experience His love.
God saw that it was good that we love our own creations and be committed to them. In order to bring it closer to home, these two questions can be asked. “Is God’s commitment to us deeper than our commitment to our newborn baby?” and “How much greater love does God have for us than we have for our own child?”
The answer is simple. The single word is, infinitely. He loves us to the deepest depths of His love—to the point of giving His only Son to die on a cross for our sins.
(John 3:16), “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
(John 15:13), “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
So when we look into the face of our newborn child for the first time and experience ecstasy; in comparison to God’s love, our love is like a single grain of sand on a sun kissed beach in Hawaii, or the twinkle of a single star in the heavens.
When God looks at us, He loves without limitation, because His love is without end. Our love, though deeply felt, is with limitations. There is no love on earth that compares to the agape love that God has for his children. He is committed to His own—for eternity.
If a time comes that doubt fills your heart, and you begin to wonder if God really cares for you, take a moment to remember your emotions at the birth of your child and realize that God loves you every moment of every day of your life, without ceasing. He cares about the infinitesimal areas that involve His children.
(Matthew 7:7-11), “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” vs.8 “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” vs.9 “Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?” vs.10 “Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?” vs.11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him?”
In that the Bible says that God will give you the desires of your heart, you need only to be patient, because His very best is just around the corner. Expect a miracle.
(1 Peter 5:6-7), “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,” vs.7 “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
