Alaska is a place of extremes when it comes to light and darkness. In some regions, there are months of near constant darkness followed by months filled with sunlight. Those in-between weeks can feel disorienting—almost like a lingering jetlag—where the body and mind struggle to adjust. Yet when the sun finally returns, it is more than welcomed. It brings warmth, clarity, and a sense of new beginning.
In much the same way, when a
person experiences the Son’s light breaking into their own season of darkness,
it is deeply refreshing. Jesus brings
that same sense of renewal and hope. He
keeps darkness at bay as we walk in His light and stay rooted in God’s Word.
Scripture reminds us in Psalm
119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The Bible does not lead us astray; its truth
helps guide and steady us, even when shadows try to settle in.
Ephesians 6:12 also reminds us
that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual
forces of darkness. Because of this,
keeping darkness at bay is not something we can do in our own strength. We are limited on our own, but through the
power of the Holy Spirit working within us, we are strengthened.
When we choose to walk in the
Spirit, we walk in the light of the Son.
His light guards our path, keeping darkness from overtaking us and
casting shadows over our walk with Him.
