It Cannot Take Us Under

God’s path of righteousness is where we are safe to walk—a brand-new way of life.  I am not saying that we walk in newness of life because of our own righteousness.  The Bible tells us that our righteousness is as filthy rags in God’s sight.  Rather, I am referring to the righteousness of His dear Son, Jesus Christ.

Salvation through Him is the beginning of a blessed journey that people will never regret.  It involves presenting ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service.  It is a walk of faith—one foot in front of the other—with Jesus by our side.

When we faithfully walk in His light, the darkness of sin fades into oblivion, never to be remembered against us again.  God casts our sins into the sea of His forgetfulness.  His Word provides clear visibility along this path.  No longer are we blinded to the truth, for Jesus Christ is the Truth.  Scripture tells us in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

It is to our advantage, both physically and, most importantly, spiritually, to walk in safety.  We will not be caught unaware or taken advantage of by the ”it” when we can clearly see where to place our next step.

“It” can be many things.  I am sure you can think of something in your own life that relates.  As for me, I envision “it” as a raging storm in which I am caught.  Its fury can be stressful until I remember who is standing by my side, saying, “Don’t worry.  I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Jesus is that Person.

Earlier today, I heard a song by the Booth Brothers that touched my spirit.  It caused me to reflect on my position in Christ and my relationship with God as His child.  Some of the lyrics went something like this: “I would rather stand in the storm with Jesus than stand in the sun without Him.”

My mind immediately began to reminisce about past challenges—storms that were difficult in nature but failed to sink this vessel of God.  He was with me every step of the way, comforting, healing, strengthening, and becoming my hope and my victory.

The “it” in the title represents anything that seeks to hinder a person’s stand for Christ—anything that causes doubt to rise up in the hearts of believers.  Scripture shares this truth in 1 John 4:4: “But you belong to God, my dear children.  You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”

Though the waters may seem to be rising, remember this: whatever “it” is that may be buffeting you in the present is only for a season.  It cannot take us under when we are standing on the Solid Rock—Jesus Christ.  He is our life preserver, our hope, our salvation, and our Savior.

In Him, we live, breathe, and stand victorious in the face of every challenge.  The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, always with us and deeply concerned about every area of our lives.  God is touched by our weaknesses and struggles, and He makes a way where there seems to be no way.  He closes doors we should not walk through and opens doors that strengthen and benefit our Christian walk.

His love is like a refreshing fountain, flowing deep and wide.  His presence brings everlasting peace, regardless of what “it” may be.  In every season and circumstance, He remains faithful, steadfast, and near.
