Can Memories Help Mold Us?

Memories can sometimes help mold us into what we have become.  I am not suggesting that we dwell on the past, but an occasional glance backward allows our minds to briefly revisit past heartaches and confusing issues that once obscured our vision.  Doing so can help us appreciate the joy, peace, and harmony we now enjoy through knowing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Our memories may help shape our perspective, but it is God who transforms our lives.

That personal, loving relationship reinforces the Scripture found in Nehemiah 8:10: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

No longer do we feel the necessity of trusting in our own strength or misguided obsessions, as we once did in a world that dictated the temperature of our everyday living experiences.

I can remember past encounters that could have proven harmful, yet I give all praise to Jesus for keeping me safe during times of rebellion.  There were moments when I was standing at the edge of a cliff, overlooking what could have been sure destruction, physically and spiritually.  I was teetering because of the weariness of sinning.

God’s mercy prevailed, even during my search for stability in a world that had none.  Thank God for His grace that endures forever!

When these sad times come to mind, I appreciate the abundant life even more now that I am a child of God.

Once I stood at the edge of a cliff, overlooking destruction.  Now I stand on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, the Rock of Ages, who provides the stability I once desperately sought.

Do you sometimes feel as though you are experiencing spiritual vertigo, so to speak?  Do you feel dizzy, as if you are on the verge of falling into an abyss of unhappiness?

There is hope!

God is full of mercy and grace.  He never disappoints.  He, and He alone, is the answer to life’s uncertainties and our unstable behavior.
