I love the name Grace. Its meanings include charm, goodness, and generosity. But beyond these, grace carries a far deeper truth: it is the unmerited favor of God.
There exists a great gulf
between sinful humanity and the holiness of God. Since the beginning of time, mankind has
tried in vain to bridge this gap—through positive thinking, good works, moral
striving, religious rituals, and other human efforts. Yet none of these can restore what was
broken. They cannot by themselves
restore that relationship.
That separation began in the
Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve rejected God’s warning and chose their own
will over His command. Sin entered the
world, and with it came a divide no human effort could overcome.
But God, in His mercy,
provided the only bridge capable of spanning that gulf: the cross.
Jesus Christ died on the cross
for the salvation of humanity. There is
no other way to be reconciled with our Creator.
God gave His only Son, and through this ultimate sacrifice, His grace
was revealed—His divine favor poured out on us.
(Ephesians 2:8-9), “For by
grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the
gift of God,” (vs 9) “not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
With outstretched arms nailed
to the cross, Jesus bore the sins of the world.
He paid a debt He did not owe for a debt we could never pay. We needed cleansing, forgiveness, and restoration—and
He gave His life freely in our place so that we might once again commune with
God.
(John 14:6), “Jesus said to
him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ ”
I am deeply grateful for the
grace and mercy He has shown to me, a sinner.
It is a reminder that grace is not just my need, but a universal one.
(Romans 3:23), “For all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
