Standing on the Precipice

There is nothing more depleting to a person’s state of mind than feeling like they are on the outside looking in—standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into the abyss of rejection.

Many young people long to be part of the “in-crowd,” to belong among the popular kids at school.  But this feeling doesn’t disappear with age.  Adults experience it too—especially in the workplace, when someone else is chosen for a promotion or recognized instead of them.  Being overlooked can feel just like being picked last in a game, left out of a group project, or chosen last in P.E.  The sting of rejection runs deep, no matter how old we are.

In that longing to belong, some people gather with others who feel the same—searching together for identity, acceptance, and meaning.  Yet in that search, many settle for less than what their hearts truly desire.  What they are really longing for is connection, identity, and a place where they are fully accepted—a sense of family.

The truth is, rejection is never our reality with God.  No matter who we are—young or old, athletic or not, confident or insecure—we are fully seen and fully loved by our Creator.  His arms are always open, inviting us just as we are.

God’s love is so great that even if you or I had been the only person in the world in need of saving, Jesus would still have given His life for us.  That alone speaks volumes about our worth to Him.

God doesn’t hesitate to choose us.  When we turn to Him, He welcomes us immediately into His family.  We are no longer standing on the edge, wondering if we belong.  We are chosen.  We are included.  We are part of something eternal.

Through Jesus, we are no longer outsiders—we are members of God’s family, walking with purpose, identity, and belonging.  We are no longer looking in from a distance; we are fully known and fully accepted.

We are His.  WE ARE SPECIAL.
