My desire is to capture, through words, the awesomeness of God. As long as a writer walks in truth and their motives are pure, I believe that God will help the words they write to come together in harmony and meaning to bless those that read them.
Words are limited, while God is unlimited and boundless. So how can mere words express the majesty of God? They can’t. There is no possible way under heaven that the true essence of God can be explained or presented without the help of the Holy Spirit blessing the words that are used.
The Bible was written by devout men of God; breathed upon by the Holy Spirit, which enabled their words to come alive even though they used every day language, with common verbs and adjectives to express themselves. The power of each word came as the Holy Spirit inspired each writer beyond their own intellect and abilities.
Though time comes and goes, and nations rise and fall, the Bible maintains its truth and remains alive. It captivates minds that are searching for truth and provides the answers they are looking for. These powerful words set at liberty those that are bound by sin. The Word of God gives direction to wondering souls that are looking for peace. It also provides the needed light for the journey through life. (Psalm 119:105), “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my pathway.”
There are no words on earth beautiful enough; rich or glorious enough; nor wholesome enough to explain the depth, breadth and height of God’s love. But one individual was able to speak God’s words precisely and with power. He was and is a special person; the true essence of God. When He spoke, people listened and marveled at the things He said.
His appearance was like those around him, but the words that came from His mouth were like none they had ever heard. They listened, spellbound, as this man used parables to tell them about the kingdom of God and His great love. There was something about the words He used that enthralled the crowds.
His extraordinary words went beyond the normal rhetoric that they were accustomed to hearing. They were listening to the awe-inspiring voice of God who was speaking through a man called Jesus; the only begotten Son of God; the true essence and power of God that was embodied in flesh. His words were God’s words.
Jesus was always about His Father’s business sharing words of life to those around Him. One day the power of words caused death to submit to life when He commanded His friend, Lazarus, whom had been dead four days, to live. Jesus spoke three words. “…Lazarus, come forth! And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, ‘Loose him, and let him go.’ ” (John 11:38-44).
One evening, Jesus and His disciples were in a boat when a great tempest arose and the waves were pounding and filling the boat. Jesus was asleep in the stern when, in great fear, the disciples awoke Him, saying, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” Then Jesus arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. The Bible says that the disciples feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:35-41)
Words of authority and power caused other miracles to take place. For example, people were healed of their afflictions, demon-possessed souls were set free, and five-thousand hungry people ate, after Jesus blessed five loaves of bread and two fish to feed them. The power in the words of Jesus was the same power that God spoke creation into existence.
Jesus not only expressed what God wanted to say to mankind through word and deed, His actions spoke volumes on the day He was crucified on a cross for our salvation. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins—He died, but rose from the grave the third day to enable you and me to live also.
There is power in our spoken words as well. They can either build up, or tear down; kill like venom from a viper, or make alive the emotional stability of others. The tongue sets on hell fire and tears down everyone around, or it brings spiritual awareness to individuals that need help, support, and guidance. Words bring unity and harmony, or division and discord.
Once spoken, words cannot be retracted. We must guard our tongue and ask God to place a watchman at our lips to prevent us from speaking words that may offend and injure another person. Words can blaspheme the Holy Spirit, which may seal a person’s fate in hell. Caution must be taken to not grieve the Spirit of God.
I pray that I will in no-way neglect my obligation of sharing God’s wonderful blessings through personal witness and words fitly placed on a sheet of paper for others to read. I never want to become lax in my walk with the Lord; such, that it causes me to speak and to write words that are not blessed of God. Words that are Holy Spirit inspired enable hurting people to find a closer walk with the Lord, thus, helping them discover the beauty of God’s Word, which draws them to the loving arms of Jesus.
