How many times have you put off something, only to have it bite you in the rear later, bringing with it the results of a “dilly dally” attitude? The out of sight—out of mind trap is all encompassing. It’s an endless circle of things not getting done. It’s easy to put off today, because there is always tomorrow.
Good intentions seldom get the job done; bulldog tenacity will. Procrastination contributes to untimely results of intended goals. Follow through gives a person the feeling of accomplishment and a sense of pride in what they have done. There is nothing worse than 20/20 hindsight and saying, “I should have done it!”
The sting that comes as a result of procrastination is usually very disappointing and painful. Seldom is there a feeling of satisfactory accomplishment when the time to act has passed. The pain of wishing that an action should have taken place is worse than having been given the opportunity to act and not taking the steps necessary to do what was needed.
Things done in a timely manner usually bring a rewarding feeling. The true benefit is the absence of pain, which is the sting of procrastination.
Today is the day of salvation, not tomorrow. Tomorrow seldom comes, because people rarely face the fact that they will not live forever. They believe they have plenty of time to act upon what they know to do. The words that accompany procrastination that pertain to God are, “I’ll just live my life to its fullest and when I’m old I’ll give my heart to Jesus.”
No-one has the assurance of seeing tomorrow’s sunrise. Sadly, many people don’t make it to an old age without fate stepping across their threshold bringing death; before they are ready to meet God. Time has run out. It is now too late to call out to Him.
The heartbreaking events of a non-Christian are the following: the sting of death; the sting of separation from God; and the sting of memories of the times they could have said yes to God, but didn’t. The decision to serve Christ was put off for another day.
The sting of procrastination looms over every person that postpones doing the right thing in time. Pain comes in a variety of degrees, but hell will be the ultimate degree of torment and pain. It is not too late to act upon the thoughts of this writing, now that you have read it. Please, don’t procrastinate; tomorrow may be too late.
The Bible says that the sting of death is sin. I believe that God removes the sting when our sins have been forgiven. Please read the following nine scriptures from the Bible. They give insight regarding the importance of being a child of God.
(1 Corinthians 15:50-58), “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.” vs.51 “Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— vs.52 “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” vs.53 “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” vs.54 “So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory.” vs.55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” vs.56 “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.” vs.57 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” vs.58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
