There was a song that I listened to as a teenager with lyrics that went something like this. “Momma said there’d be days like this, there’d be days like this my Momma said.”
I understood these words to mean that life throw’s unwanted situations our way; many of them hitting us one after the other. No sooner are we through one unpleasant experience, we are faced with another.
People in general wonder why it’s always storming on them and not someone else. When they try to figure out the reasons why, they become disappointed when answers are not revealed. They see themselves as being picked on, especially when observing others that are less giving in nature than they, and seemingly getting by with fewer negative happenings coming their way. “Why me and not them?” they complain and ask; yet, the answers seldom come.
The Bible says in (Matthew ), “…for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
When something unpleasant or terrible happens to one of our loved ones, we try to grasp the “whys,” but most often the answers evade our understanding. At these undesirable moments we can reach out to someone bigger than our questions and the situations we encounter. God is that someone who speaks peace to our heart, like nothing or no-one else can. He is touched by the feelings of our infirmities. God cares about our state of mind and is always there to help. He comforts the mind and gives strength to the weary laden.
(Hebrews 4:15), “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” In the positive it is saying, “For we have a high priest who can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities.”
We may never know the answers to our whys, but the answer to maintaining a healthy spirit and mind is found only in God. Just as God had promised that He would never leave nor forsake the children of Israel , so will He always be with us.
(Deuteronomy 31:6), “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Though we may not understand why certain events fall our lot, causing one’s heart to be troubled, or grief stricken, God calms the exterior, raging storms, while speaking peace to our inner soul.
God provides shelter from the rain that is falling. He is in control of all things. Nothing takes God by surprise, nor has He forgotten where we live, although at times it seems He has. We need only to call upon God and then receive the strength that He imparts, especially in the hard times.
(Psalm 46:1-2), “God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble.” vs.2 “Therefore we will not fear…”
Momma was right. There are days that bring heartache and misery, but the dawn of a new day brings life and strength, which enables us to face the things we must face; head on. God is our potency and high tower not only in the hard times, but He provides everlasting love forever more.
(Proverbs 18:10), “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
(1 Peter 5:7), “Casting all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.”
