How can the one formed say to the one that formed it, “Why did you make me this way?” "What way?" You may ask. Inside most people is a never ceasing hunger for a state of ecstasy. This gnawing feeling that’s deep within the gut cries out for satisfaction. It’s like an overwhelming desire of thirst; the throat gagging; the tongue swelling; a need for just a cup of cool, refreshing water.
This troublesome awareness is much like someone screaming at the top of their lungs “Is there nothing that will take this monkey off my back!” They long for someone to just dip a finger in the water of delight and touch it to the end of their parching, cracked tongue.
Desiring bliss for a moment in time is like a body that is void of life sustaining sustenance, having a vacuum inside that nothing can satisfy or fill. This is how we are made. The desire is placed there for a reason.
Emphatically, humanity tries to fill this vacuum with things, hoping that they will bring satisfaction—things such as: new cars, boats, clothes, new houses, new girlfriends, new boyfriends, a new wife, or a new husband, and other things like extra marital relationships, or sexual promiscuity; unrestrained sex with whomever; and the list goes on and on.
Mankind’s quest for happiness, with their covetousness of things that appear from the outside to be reality, are fooled into thinking they will bring contentment, but they only bring temporary relief. When things fail man’s expectations, there is a huge letdown and disappointment; sometimes so far down that they have to reach up to touch bottom—a terrible place to be.
In the search for fulfillment, these same people oft times set unrealistic goals for themselves, only to find that when they achieve them, deliverance from the oppressing tormentor of self indulgent leisure has not materialized. They experience temporary satisfaction only. Joy may be experienced, but only momentarily.
The most important ingredient is missing and cannot be found in things, because things will not fulfill the longing, so the search for reality continues. Not until such time that they stop, look and listen can reality be seen and understood.
Not until an individual realizes why the vacuum and desire to fill it was placed within them, can a refocusing of values take place. The vacuum is a God-shaped void that only He can fill, while the desire to fill it is what brings a soul to Jesus. As I have said; reality cannot be found in things; only Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.
What is reality? Webster’s New World Dictionary defines it as: “Something that is real; fact.” In my words: Reality is the knowledge to act upon that which we know to be true.
It is like a friend that is trying hard to hand you a gift that you refuse to take. Until such time that the pursuer of reality reaches out to receive the gift, the offering is in vain. The friend knows the gift is there for the taking, but they do not act upon this knowledge, thus, the act of giving and receiving does not become a reality. The plan of God is the giving of His Son to a world of sinners.
God desires to give His free gift of satisfaction, peace, contentment, and fulfillment in life, but people everywhere refuse to reach out and receive reality—the Lord Jesus Christ. He is free for the taking to whoever accepts Him.
It depends upon each individual, because of freewill. They can choose to reject the truth and hold on to things, believing that things bring reality. If so, they have been deceived by Satan. They believed a lie that came from the bowels of hell.
Here are more interesting thoughts. It is amazing how the tongue reveals to others the inner most part of our being. It reveals what we are and what our quest for reality is. The same is true of the eyes. They too reveal what is going on inside a walking shell of a person.
People try to hide behind earned titles or degrees such as: Minister, Mr. President, or letters after their name like, PhD, MS or MA, BA or BS, to name a few, but they cannot hide their true inner personality from people, nor God. People recognize them for whom and what they are, because the hardness and callousness of the heart is revealed. Others see what they truly are in their actions and eyes; and hear it in their voice when they speak. They cannot hide what is inside no matter how hard they try. Sooner or later it comes out.
(Matthew 12:34-35), “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Vs.35 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.”
Allow me finish this writing with some questions and a recap.
Why did God make us to suffer pains of agony? Why are we tormented day and night with the awareness of a “something’s missing” syndrome? How can we escape this living death? It’s when we begin to ask these questions that we are on the road to understanding and recovery. This inner drawing that we call agony will unite us with God Almighty if we allow it to do so.
Feelings of torment make us realize that we are missing the most important piece of the puzzle in our life. This piece is the Prince of Peace—Jesus Christ. He is reality! Not only is he reality, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We find our way back to God through Him and nothing else. No other person or thing can accomplish this for us.
If ‘things’ brought true satisfaction we would not see our need for a Savior. Mankind, today, believes in self-sufficiency as a means to an end. Humanistic teachings have elevated mortal man to such heights that he sits on a throne of his own making and refuses to step down. This humanistic nature is void of supernatural guidance. It shouts, “Who needs God; I have all of the answers; I control my own destiny; I will succeed in my own abilities and strength; I am god!”
This I, I, I is only self-centered thinking that leads to destruction. A person is treading on thin ice when there is no room for God in their life. The only answer to having an abundant, vibrant, and carefree life has been rejected—the gift.
When we place God on the throne of our life and remove self from sitting there, the agony, restlessness, and the searching with all of its torment, ceases to overshadow our lives. No longer will dark clouds have dominion over us. The never ending question, “Why?” has an answer. The answer will find its rightful place when people invite Him into their heart. His name is Jesus. He is Reality.
