Echo of a Memory

There is a sacred memory that often echoes through my heart—a moment from the past that forever changed the course of my life.  It was the night I knelt before God and asked Him to forgive my sins.  In that life-changing moment, I experienced the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit as He lovingly broke the chains of sin that had held me captive.  What happened that night was more than an emotional experience; it was the miracle of new life.

The memory returns to me time and again, like a gentle echo that never fades.  There is nothing unusual about that.  If someone rushed into a burning building and rescued you from certain death, you would never forget the day your life was spared.  You would cherish that memory because another willingly risked everything to save you.

How much more should I remember the day Jesus Christ became my Savior?  He willingly went to the cross and gave His life to pay a debt I could never repay—the debt of my sin.  Through His sacrifice, I found what I had searched for all along: forgiveness, peace, contentment, and the assurance of eternal life.  In a single moment, God accomplished what years of striving and self-effort never could.

The beautiful truth is that what He did for me, He desires to do for you.  The moment you turn to Him in faith and ask Him to forgive your sins, He breathes spiritual life into your soul and makes you His own.  The joy of that encounter is so profound that it will become a treasured memory—a beautiful echo that continues to resound throughout your life, reminding you of the glorious day God’s grace found you and you became His beloved child.
