I agree with the statement, “The best offense is a good defense.” It not only applies to sporting events when trying to win games, it’s relevant to the security of our nation against attacks from other nations. The Bible proves this to be a true statement regarding spiritual battles. My personal life and spiritual victories are testimonies of the same truth.
In ourselves we are weak, but through Christ the Lord we become strong. The Holy Spirit is the Christian’s trail blazer and scout. He goes before them to clear the path of anything that might be hiding; laying in wait to harm them.
Deterrence is the best way to prevent defeat. A battle is won by accurately predicting the enemy’s next move. It is crucial to the success of any operation. The Bible reveals the deceptive nature and operations of Satan. It provides wisdom and knowledge on how to counteract his attempts to conquer.
Christians are vulnerable to Satan were it not for the ‘whole armor of God’ spoken of in the Bible, (Ephesians -17). When we put on God’s armor it provides all of the protection we need to defend against the enemy of our soul. The sword of the Spirit is the offensive weapon that brings victory each and every time, which is the Word of God!
God’s Word, the Holy Bible, is the only true guide that provides defensive instructions on how to win battles. It leads children of God in the path of righteousness; teaching preparation and awareness, which are deciding factors that enable Christians to defend against the enemy on all sides. When we have God’s Word in our heart, coupled with putting on the whole armor of God, we have the best offense. Actually, they are the only defensive measures that work. “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world,” (I John 4:4).
Satan is on the rampage to defeat righteousness. Christians are the righteousness of God the Father, through Jesus Christ, His son. God can not be defeated, nor will Christians suffer the agony of defeat. Our defense lies in Jesus, our Savior. Through Him our battles are fought and won. He is the sure defense that enables us to walk in victory. Yes, we are in a battle, but the Lord won the war for us at Calvary when He died for our sins. We need only to accept Him into our heart and practice a Christian lifestyle.
