Wisdom Brings Good Cheer

I’m at an impasse.  My mind wants to go one direction, while my spirit another.  Intellectually, I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I have common sense.  I call it, “Good horse sense.”  This, coupled with God’s intellect, empowers me to walk in victory.

Sometimes the struggle between practical thinking and unbridled desires bring confusion; accompanied with high blood pressure and acid indigestion.  Erratic and undisciplined thinking will leap out of a window and try to work out the best route on the way down; but wise thinking considers all points before taking a fatal plunge.

God desires involvement in our entire decision making.  When we pray, “Not my will, but yours be done,” it’s a commitment to Him, which allows the spiritual brake to be applied that gives extra time to weigh the pros and cons according to God’s will, rather than jumping headlong into trouble.

Good judgment is the product of sound reliance on God.  If we believe that God truly loves us and wants the best in our life, why settle for second best or worse yet, third?  Just because something looks appealing doesn’t mean it’s good for us, or that we should try to obtain it.

Satan has a bag full of temptations that he throws our way, but as soon as we ask God’s opinion, Satan bags them up again and leaves us alone.  “Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you,” (James 4:7).  Wise decisions bring good cheer and a pleasant life style.

Wisdom is a virtue of a Holy Spirit led life.  It is not our own wisdom to be puffed up in; it’s God’s wisdom that navigates our vessel.  My brother called it, “The God mind.”  What could be better than to think with the perfection of God’s intellect and being directed by His truth?  Yielding to God allows the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth.

There is no virtue like having God’s wisdom to help make decisions, because it encapsulates every area of our being.  Without it we vacillate and become like a leaf blown to and fro in the breeze of controversy and unsettled quandaries.  We are unstable in all of our ways.  Godly wisdom brings good cheer and peace to all that seek it.
