Why Not the Others Instead

I think about my mom and dad often.  They have passed on to be with the Lord; and I miss them.  My wife’s father and two brothers have also gone on to their reward.  They were all Christians including the youngest brother.  He gave his heart to the Lord on his death-bed.  It saddens me to remember each passing, but I know they are in a better place; in the presence of Almighty God.  They are no longer suffering in body, but free of pain.

I sometimes wonder why they had to die, because there is a world full of child molesters, killers, wife beaters and the like.  It just doesn’t seem fair why they died and not the others!  But what’s fair?  Let’s consider this for a moment.

We all have souls, even the dirt bags on our city streets that are ruthless, hateful, malicious and full of corruption.  Where is the justice in allowing scumbag degenerates to live, while good, loving people die?  It’s hard for me to grasp.  I’m sure I sound angry and opinionated, but I’m still working on my attitude.

Violent lawbreakers and sinners at every level have a limited time to get their life right with God.  The clock is ticking.  Even if they live to be a hundred, it’s a short period compared to eternity.  Sooner or later they will pay the price for their transgressions against society and God.  Eternity in hell is the consequence of choosing the wrong road to travel.  Though time is running out, God’s grace extends even to the vilest sinners, because of His great love for mankind.  He desires all to come unto repentance and not be lost.

Our Heavenly Father is merciful and more companionate than I.  No doubt God is giving criminals many chances to see their need of a Savior and to do something about it before it’s too late.  Jesus forgives sin when sinners repent.

Let’s face it; every Christian was a sinner before God saved them.  It’s only by the grace of God that we have been spared eternity in hell.  I’m thankful that He didn’t call my number before I cried out to Jesus.  Though I was in the clutches of sin, God gave me chance after chance to hear His voice.  When I finally came to my senses and invited Jesus into my heart, God forgave my sins and changed my life completely.

The Holy Spirit is teaching me many things.  Patience is certainly high on the list.  I’m also learning temperance to trust in God’s divine intervention and involvement in my life.  But when He took my Mom, I was furious with Him.  She was only Fifty-Eight years old, and I wanted to know why!  I questioned Him and asked, “How could a compassionate, loving God do something like this to me?”  Hum…There is something in this question.  It was self-centered anger that I was experiencing when she died.  The question centered on ‘me’.  How selfish!  It was always about me.

I’ve learned through the years that things don’t revolve around my self-seeking desires.  God is showing me that His way is perfect and that His plan is without error.  He knows what is best for His children, so I believe that it was Mom’s time to go.  What else can I accept as true?

We all have an appointment to keep whether we want to or not.  Mom was spiritually ready to meet God and longed to see Jesus, but her body and mind wanted to stay.  She loved life and lived it trusting God’s Word.  She knew that to be absent from this body was to be present with the Lord.  This was her hope.

I could list a hundred reasons why I think Mom should not have died, but God’s single reason surpasses all of mine.  He wanted her home—it’s as simple as that.  Though it wasn’t my will for her to go; it was God’s will that she take the final journey home.

We place a tremendous amount of emphasis and importance in this life, because it’s the only life we know.  If we could catch a glimpse of heaven, and step into the presence of the Lord for just a moment, the things we value in this world would pale to heaven’s majesty.

Our minds cannot realize or comprehend the awesomeness and wonder of heaven.  Nothing on earth can compare to the beauty and splendor that Jesus has prepared for God’s children.  We cannot know how splendid and marvelous it is until we get there.

God will remove all pain and sorrow; and wipe away every tear.  We will rejoice forever in the presence of our Heavenly Father.  All of the whys will vanish as we look into the face of Jesus, because we are home at last!
