Out of the Corner of My Eye

It’s critical to have good peripheral vision, especially when driving, bicycling or riding a motorcycle.  Things that can obstruct this vision are thick rimmed glasses, helmets that don’t fit properly and the post between the windshield and car door.  The blind spot at the sides of vehicles also restricts visibility.

I have stopped at crosswalks and nearly hit pedestrians that were crossing from my right, because I failed to see them.  They were hidden behind the windshield post.  I also came close to pulling in front of an oncoming motorcyclist for the same reason; the post.  Accelerating into traffic I saw him out of the corner of my eye.  Thank God I was able to stop in time!

How many times have you began to merge into the lane next to you thinking no-one was there, only to hear the blast of a horn coming from the car you’re about to hit?  It was in your blind spot.  When we use our total vision rather than tunnel vision, calamities can be avoided.

Satan’s sneaky and tactful attempts to restrict our vision are frequent.  The blinders that we allow him to place over our spiritual eyes are detrimental to our wellbeing.  If he can reduce peripheral vision, we are less likely to notice when he tries to blindside us.

One of the gateways to our spiritual soul is through the eye gate.  Satan knows when he obstructs good vision with tunnel vision, it limits our ability to see him for what he is; evil, cunning and crafty.

After Satan accomplishes his goal of limiting side vision, he then tempts us with frontal wantonness; immorality and corruption.  As filth captures the twinkle of a person’s eye, it becomes more difficult to see potential death attacking from the sides.  No longer concerned of being detected out of the corner of the eye, Satan moves in for the kill.

Satan's tactics induce blindness; with dependency and cravings.  These addictions produce out of control habits that destroy lives.  When people allow the devil to captivate their senses and beguile them into bondage, sensitivity to right and wrong becomes distorted and cloudy.  A spiraling, out of control behavior takes hold to the point they cannot see past the next shot of alcohol, cigarette, narcotic, or sexual encounter.  A dark veil of seduction shrouds them; obscuring truth from view and blinding them to things that are wholesome and pure.  Satan knows that pleasure in the moment seduces better judgment.

When we focus our eyes upon Jesus, the things of this sinful world are exposed and become less enticing, because of the light of God’s glory.  Light reveals sin for what it is, because sin loves darkness.  Our eyes need light to see clearly.  God provides this light through His son Jesus; enabling truth to shine forth.  When truth prevails, our stride remains true and safe, because of clear vision.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” (Psalms 119:105).  As we look to the Bible for guidance, our vision becomes clear.  The unknowing person now becomes aware, because of the education the Bible provides.  God’s Word opens eyes to a wider range of vision.

Jesus Christ, the Truth, brings 20/20 vision to those that are in need; looking for clarity.  God removes the blinders from their eyes and brings sight to the visually impaired when they invite the Lord into their heart.  They become the apple of God’s eye; pure as the driven snow, because they were cleansed from all unrighteousness through the power of Jesus’ blood.  God sees us through the cleansing blood that Jesus shed on Calvary, which made it possible for sins to be forgiven.

Because of Jesus, I need not worry about the lack of peripheral vision, or not being able to see Satan out of the corner of my eye.  Perfect vision remains as long as my eyes are stayed upon the Lord.  Satan is exposed when I walk in Truth.
