Disingenuous Clamor

It makes good sense to allow God’s Spirit to lead us into all truth, while His perfect will and purpose is being revealed in our life.  God teaches humility and the realization of His love.  There is no other way to enjoy the fullness of love. Sensitivity to His Spirit blossoms daily as we seek His face, but laziness and being too busy to pray can stifle spiritual growth and prevent God from using us to our full potential in ministry.

There are people that choose to listen to individuals with seducing spirits; they do so at their own lose.  It becomes folly when we are led by the foolish clamor of disingenuous people that think they know everything, yet know very little about what really matters in life.  Some even take advantage of the unsuspecting when it serves their purpose.

I’m sure you’ve heard remarks like, “If I were in your shoes I would do this.” or “If I were you I would handle it this way.”  No-one knows for certain what they will do or how they will handle problem situations until they experience the same circumstances that lead up to them.  They may think they know, but make no mistake about it, they don’t.  Not until a person comes face to face with a problem can they know their reaction to it.

Occasionally, a charming person crosses our path with self serving agendas.  They keenly establish themselves as the measuring stick of wisdom and knowledge.  Their strong, charismatic influence causes people to relate to them and listen to their false doctrines or unfounded advice.  You know the type.

They give their spiel hoping to win the confidence of trusting people whom they intend to victimize or use.  Their selfish greed generates ulterior motives that help achieve the goal of seduction.  The advice they give is usually false, unclear, or worse yet, lacking scruples, and short on ethics.  They blatantly disregard the backlash that follows their council; showing no remorse for those they seduce.  Venom spews from their mouth like a person caught in a lie, while they systematically pursue their agenda.

It is far better to listen to wise council, because it is founded upon truth and not lies.  Its anointing is vital to the success of abundant living.  It abides forever and teaches insight in all things.  As we seek its protection and knowledge, we grow in liberty and strength, whereas, the consequences of listening to disingenuous clamor lead no-where.  It only ends in frustration and disappointment.

An unleashed tongue, set on hell fire, brings pain and suffering to all concerned.  The discourse that emanates will, in time, devour wholesomeness and trust that reside in the heart of those that listen.  All that remains is a decaying soul; caught in the wake of stale, putrefying rhetoric.

When the Spirit of God is allowed to speak freely to one’s heart; liberty and justice follow.  Good council is prudent when decisions matter.  God is the essence of pure, unadulterated wisdom and knowledge.  His council is motivated by love and compassion, with no ulterior motives.

(I John 2:26, 27) “These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.  But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:  but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.”

Details

There are unexplained mysteries and controversial details in the Bible that are thought provoking.  Many are interpreted various ways by intellectual Bible scholars, clergy of all faiths and parishioners in the pews.  Debates, arguments and disagreements ensue, because of strong minded people that are set in their persnickety ways.  This overconfidence can sometimes lead to haughtiness that stimulates division among those that disagree with one another.  This grieves the Holy Spirit.

One example is whether or not God will rapture the ‘Church’ prior to the six year reign of the anti-Christ, or if Christians will have to go through all or part of the tribulation.  The word rapture is recognized as the receiving of Christians, both deceased and alive, into heaven at the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The time God chooses to take us home should not disturb or cause an imbalance to our walk with the Lord.  It doesn’t really matter whether we are taken before, during or after the great tribulation; God will keep us.  God’s timeline is perfect and the general scope of His plan is without error.  Those that have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord will see Him face to face.

The same grace that God gives at the time of salvation will enable born again Believers to face whatever comes their way, at whatever time. Do you honestly think the disciples of Jesus could be martyred for the cause of Christ in their own strength and power?  No!  The Holy Spirit enabled them to stand and declare their faith to the end.

As I mentioned, people too often get caught up in the snare of debating Bible details, because of their bias opinions.  This ought not to happen.  God is love and expects the fruit of the Spirit to be manifested at all times.  “For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,” (Ephesians 5:9)

Yes, everyone has an opinion, but who is right?  Is it you or me?  Perhaps it’s the guy next door.  I believe I have found the bottom-line-answer to stand upon without perplexities, misunderstandings and confusion.  (Philippians 2:10-11).  “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus Christ is the deciding factor between heaven and hell.  “Neither is there salvation in any other:  for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved,” (Acts ).  Either we accept Jesus or we don’t.  It’s as simple as that.  All other details will work themselves out for those walking in Christ.  God will see to it.

Why should I become disturbed over details that cause sleep deprivation?  Yes, we are to study ourselves approved; rightly dividing the Word of Truth, yet we should not allow the peace of God to be lost do to varying levels of interpretations of details in the Bible.  God will keep us strong in our faith.  He is our protector, provider, healer, liberator and through Jesus Christ, our Heavenly Father.  We are His!

There will always be those that want to argue the Bible.  My dad was one of these.  In doing so, I saw hurt, anger, and disgust fill his heart as he wrote letters to those whose doctrine he disagreed with.  Consequently, he set himself apart from the church and church family, and died a lonely man with few friends.

I’ve tried to follow his example regarding commitment to God’s commandments and the proclamation that Jesus is Lord, but I refuse to subject myself and my family members to controversial issues that cause dissimulation and sleepless nights.  I strive for peace in our home.  This doesn’t mean that I’m compromising my faith or beliefs when I choose not to participate in scriptural battles…I choose to work out my own salvation, as stated in the Bible, with God’s help.

It is through the acceptance of Jesus’ death and His shed blood that I have the compelling desire to share these words with you.  Whether we believe the gifts of the Spirit were for the early Church only, and ceased with the passing of the Disciples of Christ, or the gifts are for the Church today; if a person believes in the gifts, they should pray for opportunities to use them.  If you don’t, find something you do believe in and allow God to bless you and others through that ministry.  Don’t allow distractions to take you away from the real issues and details that matter…the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, God’s son.

It’s the Holy Spirit that draws lost souls to God.  It is He that does the saving.  Who do we think we are to close up our bowels of compassion and love, because someone disagrees with us or that we disagree with them?  A spirit of love and a cup of cold water given in the name of Jesus is beauty at its fullest.  Leave it up to the Holy Spirit to do the rest.  As we surrender ourselves to God, He will work out all details to His glory.

Backseat Living

Christians are commissioned by God to share the good news of Jesus Christ to everyone around them.  The Holy Spirit does the rest.  It is not the responsibility of Christians to save wondering souls.  This is not in their job description.  The magnificent love of Almighty God draws hungry souls to Jesus Christ through the convicting power of the Holy Spirit.

Some people find it intimidating and extremely difficult to share their faith with others, because of their timid nature, yet they serve God with all their heart; doing their part in other areas less conspicuous.  It is easy for them to become envious of other Christians that possess outgoing personalities.  At times this can cause introverted people to question their abilities and make them feel less of a Christian than those in the limelight.

Personalities differ.  We are not all the same.  God made us the person we are and He is pleased with His work.  With the help of the Holy Spirit, confidence will come as we seek God.  Boldness comes by doing.  The more we trust and obey God the more comfortable we become.  He helps us step out of our comfort zone into the wonderment of giving.

Taking a backseat to Christians that find witnessing easy is unnecessary and preventable.  When this happens, it’s like saying that God is unable to use the abilities and talents they do have.  Satan would have all Believers think that they fall short of God’s standard for excellence.   This is untrue and avoidable if we allow God to work His perfection in us. One person’s gift may not be another person’s specialty.  All Christians are in the Body of Christ and each have a function to do.

In the human body, the eye does not say, “I wish I were the foot.”  And the foot does not say, “I wish I were the eye.”  Every member has a function it was designed for.  They don’t fight or envy each other.  Likewise, the Body of Christ is made up of many members having different jobs.  As long as each member works together doing their part, the Body of Christ remains strong and healthy.

Backseat living need not be a part of a born again Believer.  God uses each one in the manner for which He planned.  We are who we are.  God made us this way.  God uses Christians that are willing to be used and are sensitive to what the Spirit is saying to them.  Backseat living is not the place for success to prosper.

There are other ‘Backseat Christians’ that are different than those that are timid.  These Christians think more highly of themselves than they ought.  They are puffed up in their knowledge of the Bible; becoming arrogant and self-indulgent; thinking their way is the only, right way to serve God.  They are so narrow minded that a pencil could hide their face; figuratively speaking.

We know the common bond that backseat drivers have with each other.  They are quick to express how to drive a vehicle; when to apply the brakes; when to merge into oncoming traffic; while giving directions to a specific destination.

‘Backseat Christians’ live life much the same way as backseat drivers.  They involve themselves in the lives of others at nausea.  They are focused so intently on helping; they fail to see the failures and shortcomings in themselves.  They exist on the highs and lows of other people’s problems and always give their two cents worth of counseling whether it is wanted or not.

I am persuaded that God is able to keep what we commit to Him.  When we need counseling or spiritual advice, He sends someone our way with Godly counsel.  God is faithful in His commitment to lead us into all truth.

We must be careful to whom we listen.  Some approach our ring of fire in the name of the Lord, but the words they possess lack spiritual maturity.  They speak in their own identity and luster.  We can examine their spirit to see if they are in the flesh or being led of the Spirit.

A Christian’s discernment is vital as to whether or not the counsel they are receiving is from God.  You may be listening to one of those backseat Christians I’ve been talking about.  Be careful.  If any part of their counsel is contrary to the Bible, that person is not from God.  Listen to what the Spirit is telling you concerning this person.

It’s wonderful how God uses other Christians to encourage, strengthen and give advice, but we must recognize their fruit and from whence the words originate.  We don’t want another Backseat Christian giving their two cents worth of rhetoric.  For this reason we must hide God’s Word in our heart to prevent backseat living from becoming a reality in us.

(2 Timothy 2:15), “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Dare to Soar

When Christians are filled up with God’s Spirit; prayed up to overflowing; and read up in daily devotions; they walk in victory.  This obedience to a dedicated life- style enables them to exude confidence and expectation when petitioning God for their needs and the needs of others.  A ‘You and me’ connection between God and the one asking for help is the awareness felt.

There is something to be said for obedience.  It promotes trust in God, while assuring born-again-Believers a healthy relationship with Him.  The simplicity of this statement is easy to understand, because faith is generated through obedience to God’s Word, the Bible.

A Believer soars like an eagle when they keep in step with the Holy Spirit, while maintaining Godly principles and a commitment to kingdom living.  They find it invigorating and certainly worth while when calling upon the Lord, because faith reaches out to claim the promises in the Bible.

(Luke 11:9-10), “So I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”  vs.10 “For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

God hears and answers prayer not because of who we are, but because of a Father/son; Father/daughter relationship that is provided through Jesus Christ.  Christians that respect and cherish this relationship walk in peace and contentment, while non-Christians remain restless and anxious.

If Christians, however, allow themselves to fall short of God’s expectations and commandments, a feeling of separation occurs, because they are walking in self.  Like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Christians hide themselves from God when they disobey Him.

God doesn’t abandon His children, they separate themselves from Him, because of guilt or fear.  Thinking they have failed God, they hide from His presence, but God remains unmovable, because He will never leave or forsake those that seek Him.

Anxieties become many as more feelings emerge that God is not only disappointed, but frustrated with them.  Their insistent inability or refusal to say no to sin begins to take its toll; mentally, physically, and spiritually.  Extreme feelings that God is angry and ready to strike them down become intense.  They fail to remember the reason that God gave His only Son to die on a cross.  It was for them!  God desires a fruitful relationship and spiritual union.

In spite of what we’ve done or how we may feel, the Lord still desires to call us friend and longs to be our shelter in times of storm.  His love is everlasting and His mercy endures forever.

There is nothing worse than falling into sin and then needing to call upon God for help in a time of emergency.  One feels naked and undone before Him, because they see themselves as unclean and not worthy to receive anything from God.  Doubt and fear fill their heart, because they are unsure of their relationship with Him.

When they do a self examination or reality check, realization screams, “I’m out of touch with God!”  The close communion they once enjoyed with Him is now replaced with questions, doubts and a feeling of deficiency.  The awareness that God’s presence has diminished looms over them, because of sin.  It’s a terrible place to be.  It’s like walking down a dark street, late at night, alone in an unfamiliar city.

Even though a person falls prostrate before God and repents of their sin, when they rise and begin their walk with the Lord, Satan brings doubt as to the validity of their faith.  He is a liar and the father of all lies. Satan tries to steal the victory of sins forgiven, but God’s Word is truth.

(1 John 1:9).  “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The truth is this.  Were it not for God’s mercy and amazing grace, no person could enter heaven.  God is perfecting positive changes in those Christians that yield themselves to His sovereignty.  His ways are beyond our understanding at times, but all in all, He is working for our good.

The Holy Spirit strives to strengthen our relationship with God.  In love He convicts us of our transgressions and reunites us with our Father when we cry out, “Forgive me; I have sinned!”

I believe that the alienation that is felt when we sin is the convicting power of God’s Spirit.  He pricks our soul and makes us aware of our disobedience and the need to repent.

God wants every person to be saved and set free from sin.  He lifts us up from the mire that we have fallen into and gives new life, with a new desire to serve Him.  God loves us, passionately!

His plan is that no-one be lost.  For this reason He gave His son, Jesus, to die for all mankind.  Because of Jesus, the plan of salvation is complete.  There is no other way to make heaven our home except through Him.

Redemption is contingent upon every individual person asking God to forgive them.  You or I cannot make this decision for them; nor will God.  The choice is theirs to make.

A difficult thing to do after repenting is forgiving oneself of the sin that caused separation from God.  If we allow Satan to throw doubts our way regarding the new birth through Jesus Christ, our relationship with God suffers.  Self condemnation develops and disconnects us from faith, which prevents growing in grace.  We are little help to ourselves and others when stagnation stifles forward motion.

We need to resist Satan in the name of Jesus, and accept the gift of salvation.  Stop living in the past!

(2 Corinthians 5:17), “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Believe that God forgives and that He rewards those that seek Him.  We cannot change the past, but we can learn by our mistakes and pray that God continues to strengthen our spiritual walk with Him each and every day.

The Holy Spirit warns Christians the moment temptations become stumbling blocks, which stand in the way of progress.  He provides escape routes to take before temptations become sin in our life.  The Spirit teaches how to turn from them and look to Jesus where strength is manifested to help resist the urge to sin.  Lack of obedience will cost us something.  We need not sacrifice peace of mind or separate ourselves from God, because of wrong choices.

Justifying our actions, regarding sin, is dangerous.  If in doubt, don’t do it!  It is better to be right in God’s eyes than being wrong.  If we fall into Satan’s snare, the Holy Spirit is quick to reveal it and help us make restitution when we cry out for mercy and forgiveness.  God teaches how to become more sensitive to His voice, and vigilant to Satan’s snares.

Sin separates, but obedience kindles a healthy and joyful relationship with God.  As we surrender our will to Jesus, we walk in peace and soar as eagles. Life is meaningful, and victories are many.  Positive things happen when obedience is foremost in our mind.

(Isaiah 40:31) “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

The Trouble With Compromise

Compromise is giving up something; hoping to better a situation that is seemingly too rigid to live up to or accept as the only avenue of right.

As a builder, if I were to compromise my integrity by constructing buildings with inferior materials to save money, I’m putting people’s lives at risk.  Where is the logic or moral responsibility in this?  I may have increased my bank account today, but at what expense later?  Be sure your sins will find you out is my philosophy.

Because something appears right in a twisted mind of greed, or in the blinded eyes that peer through rose colored glasses, it doesn’t make wrongs right.  Compromise will raise its ugly head one day and justice will be served either on earth or in the here-after.  We cannot compromise and expect blessings to follow.  It doesn’t work this way.

Compromise is only a ten letter word, but it is a word that can destroy a belief system, faith, peace, joy, communion with God, and possible death of the soul.  It can lead to a host of negative behaviors that a person asks themselves in the end, “How did I get here?”

Where does compromise take a person?  It can take them away from God; the worse journey possible; a powerless trip; undisciplined and hard.  Compromise insures defeat in the long run; physically, mentally, materially and spiritually.

Let’s not fool ourselves.  We reap what we sow.  “Be not deceived; God is not mocked:  for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”  vs. 8 “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting,” (Galatians 6:7, 8).\

Mind over Matter or Faith

Don’t give ear to comments that debase or demean Godly principles, such as:  “Mind over matter is equal to or greater than faith.”  Though these two entities run a close parallel on the same narrow line, and are often confused with each other, they are assuredly at opposite ends of the spectrum.  I call this thin line, ‘choice’.  It accommodates power of positive thinking and power of positive faith.  We can choose one or the other.  It is our choice to make.

Mind over matter is pursued in the context and closed circle of self…self-will, self-indulgence and self-absorbed thinking, which lack the depth, height and breadth that only positive faith in God can provide.

Mind over matter is finite; limited at best; stemming from a foundation of natural thinking, which takes a person only so far.  Positive faith is infinite in nature, which takes us beyond the natural everyday scheme of things into the spiritual realm where miracles happen.

(1 Corinthians 2:14, “But the natural man does not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

The brain is indeed, wonderfully made, and very powerful.  The progressive mind can take a person to places that a passive mind cannot.

(Proverbs 23:7), “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”

At one time my belief system consisted of myself and natural thinking.  My attitude was, if I can’t do it, it can’t be done.   This philosophy motivated and drove me to accomplish things I set my mind to do.  But with all the abilities and positive thinking I had, it was impossible to achieve happiness, peace, joy, satisfaction and contentment.  It seemed the harder I tried the farther removed they became.  The dots would not connect for me.

All the material things I possessed; the status that I worked hard to attain; the money I accumulated; and the friends I associated with, could not satisfy a deep, inner longing that gnawed at my insides.  Though successful in the eyes of others, I lacked faith to achieve true success.

Though positive thinking took me to high places, it left me hanging and unsupported; listing back and forth in a never ending struggle between natural thinking and a subconscious notion that there must be another dimension higher than my own that could quench the thirst for lasting achievement.  I was going in circles, because of self-sufficiency and wrong choices.

Attaining certain goals and aspirations through the power of positive thinking is certainly note worthy and probable, but lack the stability of confidence that faith in God brings.

The Bible is full of promises that God gives to those having faith to receive them.  The power to believe, through faith, stems from the God-mind, not of the same dimension that power of positive thinking comes.  It is a dimension unto itself; unscathed by finite thinking.  We can either choose a self-imposed or God-imposed belief system.  Both are powerful.  But when it’s God-imposed, it promotes confidence to believe for miracles.

There is also power in the spoken word.  It can cut deep to the inner core of another person, causing hurt and anguish; or it can encourage and empower them to rise above their troubles.  We possess this power whether in self or God.  For someone to deny the power of the mind is utter nonsense, because we have the power to do good or evil, depending upon our motives, our nature, or what we crave to achieve.  Though we are powerful creatures in self and in God, He reigns supreme and is the higher power.

Some individuals seek status and power at the expense of others; stepping on people that stand in their way.  Look at many of our politicians.  They can accomplish just about anything they set their minds to do, because of a basic instinct called greed.  Yet, there are those that desire little recognition for themselves, and strive to help others achieve their dreams.  Both are stimulated by brain power, but from which end of the spectrum?

The mind, in self, can aspire to places that strain its ability to grasp reality or to function as God had intended.  Abuse of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, failure to guard what enters the eye and ear gates, and other negative influences, can factor into the demise of sound thinking.  All have unhealthful affects on the mind.

Coffee, tea and most soft drinks contain caffeine that also affects the mind.  It is addictive in nature and causes mood-swings.  Withdrawals reveal the real hold caffeine has on a person.  It can cause physical and emotional trauma like depression, fear, headaches, anxiety, emotional breakdowns and much more.

The mind can even cause panic attacks with serious side affects if allowed to go unchecked.  We must guard ourselves against stimulants and other mind altering agents that will throw us into Satan’s playground of torment.

The power of positive thinking, in self, or the power of positive faith, in God, is a choice.  I prefer to allow God to control my thinking rather than me controlling it.  I don’t know what is best for my spiritual man, but God does.  I will trust His supreme knowledge of good and evil, and ask Him to direct my thinking accordingly.

My prayer is this:  “Lord, teach me how to yield my thinking to the God-mind and help me grasp your vision and direction for my life as I step out in faith to claim your promises.”  Amen

Though we may not see clearly what we are hoping and praying for, through the power of positive faith in God we can expect the answer to come.  Faith is the ability within us to trust the honesty of God.  If He said He will do it, we can believe that He will.

(Hebrews 11:1), “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Motivated

I admire people that are motivated to physical fitness.  Many people are lazy and must be motivated by negative test results from a doctor before they put into action a fitness plan that works for them.

Why do people need the prompting of exterior influences or forces before they set into motion things they know should be done?  I believe it could be procrastination, ignorance about the facts, not being ready, lack of motivation, or stubbornness.  Only they know the real answer.

They may say it’s something all together different than what it truly is, but the bottom line is it’s not getting done.  Perhaps they need someone to motivate them to get up from their stupor and get with the program.  When lethargy takes hold, a lack of co-operation and follow-through exists.  Perhaps it’s not important enough to them to do something productive, or they feel they’ve traveled this road too long to change.

Why do some people wait until negative things happen before being motivated to rise to the occasion?  Only they can tell us if they are honest enough with themselves.  Some people refuse to face the truth, and depending upon the individual, some have closed minds concerning work, making money, chores, being a good mother or father, and most important, taking care of their soul.

They become so self-centered that they refuse to see the need of getting out of their comfort zone.  Their focus is upon their own selfish desires and what they can do to please themselves.

Transgressors of God’s principles, statutes and commandments have similar attitudes; they refuse to act upon what is best for them.  Just because God’s law doesn’t fit with their state of mind; way of living; environment; upbringing; or desires, they choose to wallow in self pity, misery, and pain that sin propagates, rather than involving themselves with anything requiring discipline and commitment.

Consequently, these individuals live their life at the level of spiritual and physical bankruptcy.  They become accustomed to a lesser, more poverty stricken quality of living and miss out on the privileges they could be enjoying through Jesus.  All they need to do is commit to Him.

Sometimes it takes losing everything to motivate a person to turn from the dung-heap they live in, and realize that God has a beautiful plan for all that come to Him.  But no-one need hit bottom before they are shaken into awareness.

The Holy Spirit is calling and working hard to motivate sinners to surrender their lives to God.  They need only to listen to his voice and turn from their sinful ways.  It is then they find satisfaction and a life worth living.  They become motivated to do well and get the job done for the kingdom of God.

Jesus Christ is waiting.  Don’t wait another minute.  Ask for forgiveness of sin and begin a new venture in Him.  “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,” (II. Corinthians 6:2).

What Do I Really See

A mirror reveals many things…color and shape of eyes; hair styles; skin tones and texture; and yes, the uniqueness of noses and their national characteristics, unless cosmetic surgery was done.  As I grow older it seems as if I see my dad looking back at me in the reflection of myself…receding hair line; graying temples; jowls and double chin.

Actually, mirrors tell all, if we take time to look closely at the messages they are showing us.  Mirrors cannot put on a fake front or false image for anyone.  They reveal exactly what is on this side of the glass.

Last evening I was looking into the mirror and thought to myself, “What do I really see?”  I didn’t resist looking as I once did as a non-Christian, but stared deeply into my eyes; past the graying hair and Scottish shaped nose.  And I was pleased with what I saw.  A happy man was looking back, with peace in his face.  The closer I peered, I sensed his spirit saying, “All is well with God.”  I believe eyes are windows to the soul, which reveal the inner beauty or ugliness that’s there.  I saw beauty.

This night was not like past experiences I had when looking into mirrors.  I use to fear that I would see my inner soul, because sin is revealed through the eyes, so I only glanced as long as was necessary to comb my hair or brush my teeth.  The reflection I saw, as a sinner, exposed who and what I was.  There was no peace in my face, only heartache and questions about tomorrow.  I knew hell was my destination, because of the rebellious lifestyle I was living.  Misery was always looking at me from mirrors.  This was the stigma of sin, and rather than dealing with it I hid from it.

Reading the Bible is like looking into a mirror.  It reveals the true texture and shape of the soul.  If you want to know where you stand with God, the Bible will show you.  Its reflection enables us to see ourselves as God sees us.  We see our true character without fanfare or compromise.

Like mirrors, the Bible never lies.  We either see beauty through Jesus Christ or ugliness, because of sin.  The Bible does not reveal a fake reflection of anyone.  It is the true image that is shown; truth non-obscured.

There is no way to look at a non-Christian and see them as you would a drinking glass half full; either they are born-again-Believers or they are not.  There are no in-between, halfway Christians, with respect to salvation.  The Bible exposes all.

As we read the Gospels we see improvements that are needed in our spiritual walk.  We are faced with what to do next.  If life everlasting is the desire of our heart, God will hear our prayer of repentance and forgive our sins.  If we choose to continue down the same road of rebellion, that choice is ours to make.  But remember, we reap what we sow.

(Galatians 6:7, 8) “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”  vs. 8 “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

I am glad for the mirror of God’s Holy Word that helped me to see myself as God saw me; lost and ugly, because of sin.  I am thankful for the choice He gave me.  My life took on new dimensions of serenity and happiness when I chose Jesus.  I don’t regret a mile I’ve traveled with God.  Each day gets sweeter and sweeter the older I become.

What do I really see?  I see a sinner saved by grace!  And that sinner was me!  I thank God for showing me who and what I truly was through the reflection in His Word.  The truth has set me free.

Enabling Through Repetition

As long as I input data into my computer each day at work, the new program remains fresh in my mind and it’s easy to remember the steps required to accomplish all the various tasks that are needed.  Repetition enables me to stay sharp.

However, when I take a two or three week vacation, when I return to my desk and keyboard, the struggle begins.  I realize then what the old saying, “If you don’t use it you lose it,” really means.  I’m sure you can think of something you do that requires a steady routine in order to remain astute and competent.

There are pros and cons regarding repetition, depending upon what purpose needs to be satisfied.  Repetition enables me to remain productive, with a feeling of well-being, because of the confidence I have that my computer skills are accurate and proficient.

Repetition in a person’s field of expertise enables them to feel good about themselves, plus, having the knowledge that all is well with the boss, co-workers, paying bills, banking, taxes or whatever it might be.  Repetition has its good points.  But when it comes to sinning, repetition is bad.  It is destructive.

Each time we sin, the results can be two fold.  We will either feel guilty, defeated and discouraged, or attempt to justify our actions.  Justifying can cause our conscious to become seared, while telling ourselves that it’s acceptable behavior to do such things.

To enable ourselves to practice sinning through repetition and justification is to set our final destination when we pass from this life.  To allow sin to become habit forming will prove to be the greatest downfall and ruination we could ever imagine.  It will be too late to change our way of living at the great white thrown judgment of God.

Refusing to sin, through the strength of the Holy Spirit, goes hand in hand with that old saying, “If you don’t use it you lose it.”  Resisting the temptation to sin is resisting the devil’s attempts to destroy our relationship with God.  Satan loses his hold on us and ceases to accuse us before God.  The Bible says in (James 4:2) to resist the devil.  “Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

We should resist any hold that Satan may have on us, which will prevent a repeat of sinning each day.  It is too easy to fall into the comfort zone of rebellion and become contented with the status quo and end up in hell.  If repetition is the great enabler, then my prayer is this:  “Father in heaven, help me to overcome the repetition of sinning.  Satisfy my desires in you, through the repetition of Godly living.”  Amen

When we pray this prayer, it’s the beginning of a healing process in our soul.  No longer are we slaves to sinful repetition, because God enables us, through Jesus Christ, to overcome the practice of repetition.  He sets us free, and satisfies our every longing.  God gives us more and more and more and more of Him…a repetition of good.

Blending Together

Too often…weak, tired or disingenuous Christians lose their enthusiasm and zest for serving God.  Their gladness turns melancholy as life becomes strained and troubled.  When people leave the solidarity of their faith, it is possible for them to sink deep into a reclusive existence and slowly separate from God’s presence.  Sadly, they are on the road to a stale, non-devotional existence.

They find it hard to discipline flesh to get up Sunday mornings and attend church or Sunday school.  It becomes less desirable and less meaningful to do so.  To be present at evening and midweek services develops into a thing of the past, because of undisciplined behavior.  Teaching Sunday school classes or hosting home Bible study groups cease, while the excuse that there’s no time to prepare eases their conscience.  One excuse leads to another, while non-involvement looms on the horizon.  The thrill of worship and prayer meetings grow less exciting each time they begrudgingly attend.

Soon, if the reasons are not searched out and resolved for the lack of enthusiasm, these people will find themselves sitting in a corner, because of their own choices, and wonder why life is fleeting by with nothing to look forward to.  They have just entered into the zone of ‘boredom living’, where daily routine stagnates, because of the slow moving existence they’ve chosen.

Faithfulness to God’s house, paying tithes, reading the Bible, prayer and ministering with the talents God blessed them with, turn into something less important than watching sports on television, playing golf, taking the recreational vehicle to a place to unwind or just relaxing with a good book.

What happened?  Anything worth while must be cultivated and looked after with care.  There must be a prayer life and Bible study to maintain optimum, spiritual awareness and strength.  The more a person puts forth an effort to learn about God and His love, the greater the desire to spend time with Him emerges.  This stimulates a need to enjoy the company of other Christians; attend church; and to share the goodness of God with others.

The blending together of worldly pleasures with Godly principles usually leads to a weak, anemic condition.  There is nothing wrong with enjoying life, having hobbies and doing fun things, but to allow them to consume the majority of our time is where trouble begins; as does partaking in the wrong kind of fun.  The Holy Spirit will keep us in line if we listen to Him.

Keeping things rightly prioritized is the key to a fulfilled, prosperous way of living.   Serving God with gladness removes boredom and anemia from a person’s zest for excitement in their life.  We need to serve God with all our mind, soul and body, while enjoying family, friends and yes, having fun.

As long as God is at the forefront in decision making, acts of loving kindness will be shown to others.  Support of Godly programs, not only financially, but with personal time, will be given.  When loving God with all that is within us becomes foremost, I believe the blending together of Godly principles and wholesome entertainment will not detract from spiritual growth, as long as we listen to the Holy Spirit.  To disregard His voice means walking away from God.  No person in their right mind wants to do this.

Sanctuary for Troubled Souls

Everyone is looking for something; a new or used car to buy; a house or apartment to live in; a bank that gives the highest interest for savings; a restaurant that provides the best quality meal for the money; or the grocery store that has the cheapest food prices.

There are so many unnecessary things that clutter the mind that they can literally immobilize a person’s ability to think properly.  The pressure they exert causes emotions to boil like the pressure cooker my mom used.  Where’s the pop off valve that prevents a tragic blow-up; allowing the mounting pressure to subside?  Some people never find it, because they are looking in the wrong places.

The Lord is our pressure relief valve.  When we take our concerns and cares to Him, He speaks peace to our troubled soul.  Freshness is generated and comfort becomes reality.

Nervous breakdowns and other diseases stem from bottled up pressure that is not relieved.  Some people go through life carrying an overload of guilt, heavy responsibilities, a plethora of unanswered questions, mounting feelings of alienation, wondering why they are unloved, and just the general survival mode of making ends meet.

Many things cause the soul to become troubled, but there is hope for every problem and situation.  His name is Jesus.  He is our place of refuge and protection; a sanctuary in times of trouble.

When we petition God concerning the relentless problems we face and our inability to adapt to mounting pressures; and we remind Him of our lack of strength to cope with deep hurts and longings; the Holy Spirit assists in giving direction, answers, and resolves.  Whatever the need, God is ready to help if only we involve Him in our personal affairs rather than keeping Him at arm length.

(I. Peter 5:6, 7) “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:  7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Some people are embarrassed to cast their cares upon the Lord, because of unfinished business between them and God.  They know they should serve Him, but lack the follow-through to complete the transition from the old nature to a new nature in Christ Jesus.  Consequently, they reel and flounder in self destructive rebellion, because they refuse the only answer for a miserable existence.

Whatever the reason for keeping anxiety, restlessness, nervous disorders, fear or compulsive worrying inside, let it go and allow God to take it!  Please!  Just give Jesus a chance to show how much he cares about your situation.  Try Him.  You’ll not regret it.

There is nothing like taking in a deep breath of refreshing peace after God has taken the problem and resolved the issues.  He is, without a doubt, the sanctuary for troubled souls.

God is the haven of rest for weary travelers that are aimlessly stuck in a revolving door of pressurized living.  God brings solidarity to troubled souls when He becomes their sanctuary.  He provides common sense, wisdom, reason, understanding, good judgment and many more positives.  If your soul is troubled and you are searching for answers, ask God to become your sanctuary.

Set In Our Ways

Not only are youth embedded in this problem, older folks are just as guilty when they subscribe to it.  This practice of being set in our ways is humanistic in nature and lacks the willingness to change viewpoints even though the person knows they are wrong.  Stubbornness is usually the foundation supporting this refusal to change.

When I was nineteen years of age I thought I knew a lot.  It was hard to listen to sound reasoning and good advice.  Now that I’m on the other side of the hill I realize how little I know and how hard it is to learn new ways of doing things.  Change is hard for me.  “You can’t teach old dogs new tricks,” applies to me.

In one sense it’s good to be independent; having a mind of your own.  But a person walks a narrow path of understanding when they refuse good council or more advanced methods of doing things.  To be narrow minded is like sticking one’s head in the sand and wishing that people and new techniques would go away.  They are not willing to change, because they feel it’s bad or not needed.  They may not even know the reason; they are just set in their ways.

Changes are usually good, but to remain in a hole of non-interest and stagnation may prove unwise and lonely.  Computer technology is intended to make life easier, and for the most part does exactly that, yet when it becomes compulsive to be on it every free minute and surfing the web for hours on end, it takes precious time away from family members, friends and enjoying life.  New experiences are missed, because of too much time on the computer.  It’s easy to become set in our ways.

Whether a person is young or old, if they cannot take constructive criticism, I believe they are prone to have a non-teachable spirit as well.  There is little forward motion when someone is set in their ways.  It reminds me of the time I accidentally glued my thumb and index finger together with instant, bonding glue.  My fingers were of little use until I did something to free them from their attached state.

At any age our soul can become set in its ways; bound to worldly influences or old ideas that prevent movement in the right direction.  Until something is done to set that soul free from the bondage that holds it, it cannot function as God had intended.  It is non-teachable, therefore, little use to God.

Change can be hard; as is the notion of allowing someone else to direct our life.  But when a person is willing to take a chance and consider the advantages of a new direction toward Jesus, and the beauty of waking up each morning with a song of praise on their lips—change is not so bad.  It’s wonderful!

When a comparison is made between God’s positives and Satan’s negatives, a ‘set in our ways’ attitude takes a back seat to a new and improved lifestyle that the Lord Jesus brings.  When this change is experienced it revolutionizes our thinking; stimulates new motivation; arouses and excites learning; and a feeling of empowerment surfaces.  It’s a brand new life outside the walls where ‘set in our ways’ live.  Bondage is broken, while freedom to explore and experience new found liberties are available.

The Holy Spirit tills the soil of the heart and prepares it to receive the seeds of wisdom from God’s Holy Word, while changing the old nature into a new one.  The heart becomes a heart of flesh; now teachable.  No longer is it a heart of stone that is set in its ways.
