Reflections of Reality

I look into the mirror each morning and see an aging gentleman that loves God.  Though my eyes are red from rising early, they are no longer bloodshot, because of a hangover from drinking too much the night before, or shedding tears do to loneliness.

Those dreary days are only memories of when I thought having a good time meant walking hand and hand with the world and living vicariously.  It only brought regrets and pain.

I was searching for some semblance of belonging, but the reflection of reality that was looking back at me each morning reminded me of the hopeless situation that I had created for myself; and there was no-one to blame but myself.

Reflections reveal much, yet I refused to linger at the bathroom sink for fear that I would recognize, in the mirror, the reasons for my decaying appearance.  I wasn’t ready to give them up.

Look at the ones strung out on crack and other narcotics; their countenance says it all.  The human body rejects the influence of alcohol, tobacco and drugs, and rebels in negative ways that cause reprehensible damage to this fleshly temple.
(I Corinthians ), “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

The reality of a sin-filled life is seen in the reflections of those that abuse their body.  If a person turns a blind eye to these reflections, as I did, this action does not hide or take away from the reality of what is.  They are allowing the slow poisoning of body and mind with temporal pleasures that never satisfy.

A picture taken with a camera is certainly the reflection of reality.  It captures the true essence of the way a person is living.  Gluttony, purging of food, anorexia, and vises that Satan throws our way show up in reflections.  There is no getting away from the reality of what a person is becoming or has become.  If they continue rubbing shoulders with the devil, death can follow prematurely.

‘Walking death’ may not occur overnight, but time has a way of catching up with those that choose to disobey God’s commandments.  The body pays the price for sin, as does the soul if a person dies in their sin.  Hell is an awful place to spend eternity.  But there is hope!

God offers the answer to belonging.  He gives us something to live for through His son Jesus.  Knowing Jesus as Lord causes our reflection of reality to change from hopelessness to joy unspeakable; full of glory.

Facial countenance is one of happiness, with a smile from ear to ear.  No longer does the mirror hold images of hurt and despair, but images of delight and satisfaction.

When a soul surrenders itself to God’s amazing love, and experiences the new birth through Jesus Christ, heaven is the ultimate reward, but everyday presents the reality of incredible changes, because the soul has found peace.  It has become a part of the family of God.  Reflections now become the image of God’s son in us.
