We know according to (Hebrews 13:8) that “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.” He never changes. Though situations of life and people change, God never does. He is the “I Am That I Am,” (Exodus ).
Where people can ere in their walk with the Lord is when they want God to be the God of yesterday’s failures, because they live in the past; or the God of future disappointments, because they anticipate failures tomorrow. They live in the woes of their mind and fail to understand that Jesus is Lord of the present…I Am. God didn’t say I Was or I Will Be; although He is indeed omnipotent and omnipresent—all-powerful and all-pervading.
I believe that God wants us to live in the present rather than looking to the past where hurts and personal failures reside. And harboring fears of things that may or may not come can produce a defeatist attitude in the present, which drains the victory we have in Christ today. The Lord is I Am.
Many times it is easier to write or speak words of encouragement to others than to live them. We all have skeletons in the ‘closet of past regrets’ that we wish could be undone. But we can trust the Bible when it tells us that God’s grace is sufficient for all things. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Worry is the wet blanket that we sometimes shroud ourselves in when it comes to having faith for tomorrow’s challenges. Remember, Jesus never changes. He loved you yesterday and today, He will love and care for you tomorrow.
To bring our mind under subjection is difficult at times, because of the non-essential, extra curricular activities that surround us. They stimulate our mind to achieve certain goals and dreams, while the fun things excite our physical body.
There is nothing wrong with having fun and spending time enjoying life; we are made this way. But to desire fun and the staples of life more than God, we soon find that problems arise and trust in God declines.
It is easier for some people to discipline themselves to rest their mind from the cares of life and relax in God, while others fight battles within themselves concerning yesterday, today and tomorrow…physical, emotional and intellectual battles, to name a few.
Perhaps they are not taking time out for God today, which, if done, provides victory over yesterday and tomorrow, because they walk triumphantly in the present.
Not all people are the same. God made us who we are; a wonderful example of His handiwork; all with differences of opinion, personalities, personal likes and dislikes, with varying motivations and drives; in spite of individual emotions and passions.
All in all, what one person struggles with, another person may not. We each have our strong points, yet are subject to weaker areas that we must deal with. God understands this and provides grace sufficient enough for all personalities of His making.
Though our mind sometimes labors to hear what God is saying, these are the times that we must realize that God is infinite. His thoughts and words of encouragement are for every day of our life if we take the time to listen. I believe the words that God speaks to our heart help us glean confidence in Him, while providing food for our soul.
As we point others to a forgiving and loving God, their soul, too, can heal from past hurts, and the worries about future happenings can be eliminated, because of God’s grace. Encouraging them to read the Bible enables a new world of understanding and beauty to unfold. They learn about I AM of the present.
It’s amazing how God changes a person’s life when they desire His fellowship and works at living for Him in the now. This happens when people make time for the Lord.
It’s up to each individual to allow the finer points in life to be theirs through Christ Jesus. Life is too short when we try to live it without God’s personal touch and words of encouragement each day. I Am That I Am gives strength, daily, as we learn to give yesterday and tomorrow to Him.
