Everyone is looking for something; a new or used car to buy; a house or apartment to live in; a bank that gives the highest interest for savings; a restaurant that provides the best quality meal for the money; or the grocery store that has the cheapest food prices.
There are so many unnecessary things that clutter the mind that they can literally immobilize a person’s ability to think properly. The pressure they exert causes emotions to boil like the pressure cooker my mom used. Where’s the pop off valve that prevents a tragic blow-up; allowing the mounting pressure to subside? Some people never find it, because they are looking in the wrong places.
The Lord is our pressure relief valve. When we take our concerns and cares to Him, He speaks peace to our troubled soul. Freshness is generated and comfort becomes reality.
Nervous breakdowns and other diseases stem from bottled up pressure that is not relieved. Some people go through life carrying an overload of guilt, heavy responsibilities, a plethora of unanswered questions, mounting feelings of alienation, wondering why they are unloved, and just the general survival mode of making ends meet.
Many things cause the soul to become troubled, but there is hope for every problem and situation. His name is Jesus. He is our place of refuge and protection; a sanctuary in times of trouble.
When we petition God concerning the relentless problems we face and our inability to adapt to mounting pressures; and we remind Him of our lack of strength to cope with deep hurts and longings; the Holy Spirit assists in giving direction, answers, and resolves. Whatever the need, God is ready to help if only we involve Him in our personal affairs rather than keeping Him at arm length.
(I. Peter 5:6, 7) “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
Some people are embarrassed to cast their cares upon the Lord, because of unfinished business between them and God. They know they should serve Him, but lack the follow-through to complete the transition from the old nature to a new nature in Christ Jesus. Consequently, they reel and flounder in self destructive rebellion, because they refuse the only answer for a miserable existence.
Whatever the reason for keeping anxiety, restlessness, nervous disorders, fear or compulsive worrying inside, let it go and allow God to take it! Please! Just give Jesus a chance to show how much he cares about your situation. Try Him. You’ll not regret it.
There is nothing like taking in a deep breath of refreshing peace after God has taken the problem and resolved the issues. He is, without a doubt, the sanctuary for troubled souls.
God is the haven of rest for weary travelers that are aimlessly stuck in a revolving door of pressurized living. God brings solidarity to troubled souls when He becomes their sanctuary. He provides common sense, wisdom, reason, understanding, good judgment and many more positives. If your soul is troubled and you are searching for answers, ask God to become your sanctuary.
