I admire people that are motivated to physical fitness. Many people are lazy and must be motivated by negative test results from a doctor before they put into action a fitness plan that works for them.
Why do people need the prompting of exterior influences or forces before they set into motion things they know should be done? I believe it could be procrastination, ignorance about the facts, not being ready, lack of motivation, or stubbornness. Only they know the real answer.
They may say it’s something all together different than what it truly is, but the bottom line is it’s not getting done. Perhaps they need someone to motivate them to get up from their stupor and get with the program. When lethargy takes hold, a lack of co-operation and follow-through exists. Perhaps it’s not important enough to them to do something productive, or they feel they’ve traveled this road too long to change.
Why do some people wait until negative things happen before being motivated to rise to the occasion? Only they can tell us if they are honest enough with themselves. Some people refuse to face the truth, and depending upon the individual, some have closed minds concerning work, making money, chores, being a good mother or father, and most important, taking care of their soul.
They become so self-centered that they refuse to see the need of getting out of their comfort zone. Their focus is upon their own selfish desires and what they can do to please themselves.
Transgressors of God’s principles, statutes and commandments have similar attitudes; they refuse to act upon what is best for them. Just because God’s law doesn’t fit with their state of mind; way of living; environment; upbringing; or desires, they choose to wallow in self pity, misery, and pain that sin propagates, rather than involving themselves with anything requiring discipline and commitment.
Consequently, these individuals live their life at the level of spiritual and physical bankruptcy. They become accustomed to a lesser, more poverty stricken quality of living and miss out on the privileges they could be enjoying through Jesus. All they need to do is commit to Him.
Sometimes it takes losing everything to motivate a person to turn from the dung-heap they live in, and realize that God has a beautiful plan for all that come to Him. But no-one need hit bottom before they are shaken into awareness.
The Holy Spirit is calling and working hard to motivate sinners to surrender their lives to God. They need only to listen to his voice and turn from their sinful ways. It is then they find satisfaction and a life worth living. They become motivated to do well and get the job done for the kingdom of God .
Jesus Christ is waiting. Don’t wait another minute. Ask for forgiveness of sin and begin a new venture in Him. “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,” (II. Corinthians 6:2).
